Trip to San Diego and Legoland to celebrate Aaravs Birthday

Aarav had been talking about going to Legoland for a long time. A recent visit by our new neighnours in Millbrae, added to our decision to plan a trip.

We planned a 3 night trip to san diego, with plans to stay at the Legoland resort, right next to the theme park.

We took an early morning flight to San Diego, getting us landing there by 8 AM. With a whole day in front of us, we decided to spend the day in the San Diego Zoo, which we had heard a lot of good things about.

After renting a car at the Airport, we reached the Zoo before its opening time. The sculpture of a lion at the entrance was spectacular, and so, some pictures later, we were able to enter, and began wandering the zoo.

We enjoyed the baboons, koalas and meerkats. The Elephants were particularly fascinating to watch along with our snacks.

The Secretary bird had some spectacular plumage, that I particularly enjoyed.

We had lunch within the zoo, and enjoyed the cable cars, more wandering, and even took a bus-top tour throughout other parts of the zoo. The zoo was definitely larger than we could see all in 1 day, so the bus tour was a nice idea, especially in the afternoon, when our energies were waning.

After a fun day at the zoo, we drove to Carlsbad, and checked into Legoland resort. The lobby had a fun “Lego Fountain” with lots of bricks for waiting kids to play with. The Lego theme was everywhere and was pretty well done. The boys even had a small treasure hunt every day, the answers to which unlocked a safe in our room containing the “Treasure”, which was a rare/seasonal lego set. Because we spent multiple nights there, the boys got to do this twice and doubled up :). Some safe-cracking might have been involved to work around some wrong answers :)

In the evenings, the resort had a variety of activities for kids, from movie showings, puppet shows, dance parties, story time etc.

We spent 2 days in the theme park. Staying at the resort allowed us in a bit sooner, which was nice, but being the holidays, we soon found ourselves in the middle of all the crowds.

With Aarav really afraid of roller coasters, and us not wanting to leave Tejas out of the fun, we opted to go on rides that allowed all of us together. The smaller rides had the added bonus of shorter lines, which was also nice.

This one, is memorable. An easy water ride, where you fend off onlookers with water cannons, from your own car, and when you are done, and thoroughly soaked on a chilly december morning, you too can get your revenge by spraying other ride-goers, and revel in their misery. As a bonus, the park had a machine that would helpfully dry you off, for a fee of course :)

We spent 2 days wandering the park, and enjoying all the lego themed rides. The lego city in the middle of the park was super inventive, and had lots of details for us to look at and appreciate. Christmas themed breakout events were also fun to take in.

On the last day, after breakfast, we checked out and took a scenic drive back to the airport along roads that were close to the coast. An attempt to stop along the beach was rebuffed by a sudden downpour and the threat of more rain, so we came back to the car and continued our drive.

We eventually stopped in La Jolla, right in time for lunch and for the skies to part. After some lunch at a cafe, we walked down to rocky point, to enjoy the outdoors, take in sights of the ocean, and sea life.

And that wraps up our vacation...

Winding things up, we drove on to the airport and returned home.
