Andalsnes and Trondheim: Finishing out the road-trip
Gallery
Leaving Stryn, our ultimate driving destination was Trondheim, where we were to catch a flight to the Lofoten Islands. The drive was too long to accomplish in one day, so we had a planned stop over in the town of Åndalsnes. These were days filled with quite a bit of driving, and with pretty, but not as spectacular scenery as around the Jostedalsbreen area.
We reached the Trollstigen Resort in Åndalsnes and had planned a drive to the famous Trollstigen, but we saw signage indicating that the roads approaching, and Trollstigen itself were closed due to the risk of rockslides.
We decided to go to the Trollveggen (Troll wall) instead.
We drove to downtown Åndalsnes to find a restaurant for dinner, but chanced into a street market with lots of food stalls. We assembled a multi-cultural dinner out of the vegetarian offerings from 4 different stalls :) Yum.
Åndalsnes had a lot more to offer, by the way of camping, hiking and exploring, but we were on a tight timeline, and didnt have the chance to do more. I guess we’ll have to come again :)
Another long day of driving in front of us, and we opted to make it just a bit longer with a detour to the Atlantic ocean road.
A lunch stop on a small island just off the ocean road, gave us a chance to enjoy the place a bit more, as well as a chance to explore and interact with the landscape. Tejas and I were able to do a slightly longer circuit of the island, includeing walking through some tide pools.
Purni was the hero of the day, driving large portions of the distance to Trondheim, while the rest of us chatted, listened to music, ate snacks or napped.
We arrived in Trondheim pretty late in the day, giving us enough time to go for a short walk around town, and take in the sights. The old town bridge, walking through “Bakklandet” (aka old town) neighborhood, and a walk around Nidaros Cathedral (a 13th century Gothic Cathedral) were all accomplished before stopping for dinner in a eccelctically named Indian restaurant (“KōH i NōR”)
The next morning, the family was feeling like they needed a rest day before we caught our flight, so I took a solo walk out to the docks, through town, up to “Kristiansten Fortress” and back down again, to take some photos and enjoy a sunday morning.
An afternoon flight to Lofoten awaits us. See you in the next one.
